What is a “beatitude”? Who are the “poor in spirit”? What does “blessed” really mean? The picture that is painted in these verses is the vision that believers in Jesus Christ should have for themselves. It is no wonder that the listening crowd of that day were "amazed." This passage is especially practical for the Christian today that wants to live in a way that pleases our Lord Jesus Christ and attracts others to Him.
