We believe that the Bible is the final rule of faith and practice for the believer. 2 Timothy 3:16 states that the Bible is the source of our doctrine. Here are a few of the key elements of our doctrinal statement. Beliefs
- We believe in the verbal inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21). We believe that the Bible reveals God (Genesis 1:1), the fall of man (Genesis 3:1-19; Romans 5:12), the way of salvation (John 3:16; John 14:6), and God's plan and purpose in the ages (Acts 2:22-23; Ephesians 2:7).
- We believe in the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26).
- We believe in the deity (Colossians 2:9), virgin birth (Matthew 1:24-25), substitutionary death (2 Corinthians 5:21), and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:20).
- We believe that salvation is "by grace," plus nothing and minus nothing (Ephesians 2:8-9). The conditions of salvation are repentance and faith.
- We believe that men are justified by faith alone and are accounted righteous before God only through the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Justification establishes an eternal relationship that can never be broken.
- We believe in the visible, personal, and premillennial return of Jesus Christ.
- We believe in the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved (2 Corinthians 5:1) and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost (Revelation 20:15).
- We hold to the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith.
Practices The truth that we see in scripture affects how we live. - We reflect the holiness of God through the practice of biblical separation from sin, brethren who choose to live in disobedience to God, and the carnality of the world in which we live.
- We reflect the holiness of God in our use of Christ-honoring music.
- We reflect the holiness of God in the modesty and appropriateness of our dress.
Our beliefs and practices are held primarily with an attitude of love (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). |
Our Core Commitments Sharing the “Good News” We desire to share the Bible’s message of “Good News.” God loved you so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to pay completely the penalty that you could never pay for your sin (John 3:16). It is only by (1) admitting that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23), (2) believing that Jesus Christ as God died in your place to pay the penalty of your sin and was resurrected from the dead after 3 days in the grave (Romans 10:9), and (3) depending on Christ's payment for your sin alone to bring you complete forgiveness from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). The “Good News” of the Gospel is the only power strong enough to transform peoples lives to be pleasing to God (Romans 1:16). Expository Bible Preaching
We want to know the truth! Knowing the truth is the first step toward finding spiritual freedom (John 8:32). Because the Bible is the source of truth (John 17:17), we make the preaching of God's Word the primary focus of every service. Our preaching is focused on enlarging the truth of God's Word and applying it to our daily living (2 Timothy 4:2). We believe that God supernaturally used men to record in the Bible everything that we need to know to live pleasing to Him (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Spiritual Growth We believe that God’s goal for His children is continual change through the power of the Holy Spirit to be more like Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18). Jesus Christ is God and therefore possesses the attributes of God (John 10:30; John 20:28). Our goal in this life is to continually weed out sin in our lives and grow in godliness (2 Corinthians 7:1). God through the person of the Holy Spirit lives inside us (1 Corinthians 6:19) empowering us to grow and change (Galatians 5:22-23). All of our services, programs, and activities are intended to promote growth in Christ likeness. A Distinction for God We desire Truth Baptist Church to be a place where Christ makes a difference in our lives! God is holy which means that He separates Himself from all sinful contamination (1 Peter 1:15-16). Satan is the leader of a counter kingdom called "the world" (2 Corinthians 4:4; 1 John 2:15-17). He is constantly trying to foist his values and priorities on true believers destroying the distinction between God and sin (Romans 12:1-2). At Truth Baptist Church it is our ambition to reflect God’s holiness in how we worship God both corporately and privately. Conservative Music In our public worship we have the opportunity to reflect God’s holiness through our choice of music. We believe that music is moral and communicates a message either good or bad. We believe that rock, jazz, and most other popular music successfully communicates the sensual message its composers and artists intend it to communicate. We believe that "contemporary Christian rock" music is an attempt to use a sensual medium to worship a holy God. Because God’s holiness demands that we separate from sin, we do not use a sensual medium to worship our holy God. We do value "contemporary/new" Christian music! We use a variety of new and old songs in our worship. God’s Glory We believe that our ultimate purpose as a church and individually is to bring glory to our creator (Ephesians 3:21; 1 Corinthians 10:31). We bring glory to God by spreading the “Good News” of what God has done in Christ to bring salvation, magnifying and reflecting the truth He gave us in His Word, obeying His commands, and changing to be like Christ. It is our desire “that He Himself will come to have first place in everything” (Colossians 1:18). |

We are the first to admit that being Baptist does not save anyone; neither is it true that only Baptists will go to heaven. Any person who trusts Christ as Savior will be saved regardless of church affiliation. However, historical Baptists have held various distinctives that we also hold--thus, we are Baptist by conviction. Among these distinctives are the following: - We believe that the Bible is and should be the only rule of faith and practice for the church. Neither tradition, opinion, ritual, speaking in tongues, direct revelation, nor human reasonings should be placed on a par equivalent to the Bible as the final authority for man upon earth.
- We believe that only saved people should be members of the church. (Acts 5:42)
- We believe that each person will stand before God individually and give an account for their own belief and actions. Because of this, we do not believe that any church, government, or power has the right before God to compel a person to believe something against their conscience.
- We believe in separation of church, i.e., the state has no right before God to compel people to follow a designated state religion. We do believe it is the responsibility of churches and believers to influence the nation by their lives, voting, and witnessing, but not by taking control of the government in the name of the Church.
- We believe that there are two ordinances commanded in the New Testament for churches to follow: baptism by immersion after salvation and regular observance of the Lord's supper to remember His death until He comes again.
- We are an independent baptist ministry with congregational rule. We believe that every believer is an individual priest before God (1 Peter 2:9). Every believer has direct access to God through Jesus Christ. As the members of a church seek to be like Christ, God reveals His mind and will through decisions made by the members of the church.
Having stated these positions, we believe that balance and love should permeate all that we do. Jesus held the truth with love and that is our desire also. |
